The Romanian-American University (RAU) introduced a specialized course in blockchain and financial technologies starting in 2022, joining prestigious institutions such as Harvard, MIT, and Oxford in this educational domain.
Program and Objectives
The course targets master's students in the "Finance and Financial Technologies" program at the Faculty of Accounting and Finance. It spans 56 hours in the first semester and covers fundamental blockchain concepts, including blocks, transactions, mining, hash functions, cryptocurrencies, wallets, cryptography, and consensus algorithms.
Practical Application
The curriculum emphasizes practical application, requiring students to design and implement a smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. Instructor Ciprian Ciceu, an entrepreneur with two decades of experience in finance and software engineering, leads the course through BeTrader Academy — described as "one of Europe's most powerful FinTech training organizations".
Employment Perspective
The university anticipates this initiative will enhance graduate employability, given industry projections that blockchain will create "over 40 million new jobs globally" in the next eight years.
